The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu and other esteemed chiefs need to be consulted sooner rather than later, according to the Mamprugu Youth Association, Accra Chapter, in order to find a long-term solution to the Bawku chieftaincy dilemma.
The Association further stated that politics should not be permitted to interfere with tradition's ability to resolve the conflict.
During a news conference on Thursday in Accra, they called for a solution to the Mamprusi and Kusasi conflict in Bawku.
On behalf of the Association, a lawyer named Mr. Ishaq Ibrahim supported the notion of employing mediation to resolve the dispute.
He noted that President Akufo-Addo had asked the Asantehene to assist him in resolving the Bawku crisis by May 6, 2023.
Mr. Ibrahim encouraged Ghanaians to denounce the disrespect and assaults meted out to the military and other security officers deployed to defend lives and property at Bawku and requested that the Kusaug People's Congress immediately order all Kusasi youngsters implicated in the mayhem to order.
As you are aware, maintaining peace and security is crucial to the development of a country. Any area of instability in our beloved country has an impact on the entire country, not just that particular region.
Our ancestors founded Bawku, thus we pray above all else for peace to prevail there and in the surrounding traditional territory.
